Spanish capital despite pandemic popular for culinary concepts

Just before summer, one of the most well known croissants from Paris became available in Madrid. Maison Kayser, with over 200 bakeries in 23 countries: ‘Madrid has always been a target market for Kayser’.

It’s just an example of a new reality: during the last few years Madrid has become more and more cosmopolitan. The gastronomic interests of it’s inhabitants and the already great culinary options, have made the city into a foodie destination and a point of interest for foreign catering and culinary entrepreneurs. ‘And no pandemic can stop them’, says one of them.

Madrid: a hyperdynamic ambience and jovial attitude

Another example: Big Mamma recently opened in Madrid. ‘We have always dreamt about opening in Spain, Madrid really inspires us because of it’s hyperdynamic ambience and it’s jovial attitude, we love the city’.

Or The Avocado Show, a Dutch healthy food concept funded by Ron Simpson, with franchises in Amsterdam and Brussels. In autumn 2019 they decided to open in Madrid and in December last year the group found a place. Madrid? ‘Because of it’s gastronomic offer and touristic potential, mainly’.  It’s a cosmopolitan city where you can already find healthy food and consumption tendencies. And also because Madrid has a vibrant social life. The plan is to open eight more franchises during the next few years.

An important foodie scene

Distrito Ceviche, whose owners are originally from Venezuela, opened two restaurants in Madrid last August. The owners believe Madrid has an important foodie scene and the Spanish love ceviche. Their idea is to open 24 new places in the next four years in the Spanish capital.

And there’s more. Hotel Four Seasons, that opens it’s doors this month, although there are no tourists at the moment, is part of the larger project Complejo Canalejas. The project also includes a Food Hall with brands like Nobu, owned by chef Nobu Matsuhita and Robert de Niro, and Salvaje, present in various countries.
